About Willemijn

Willemijn Verkoren (1978) studied History and International Relations at the universities of London (Queen Mary College) and Amsterdam. She obtained her PhD in International Development Studies at the University of Amsterdam in 2008.

Willemijn is Associate Professor (Universitair Hoofddocent) Conflict Studies and International Relations at Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands. She also works as a freelance researcher, author, adviser and lecturer, based in Amsterdam. Her specialisations are conflict, peacebuilding, development, security and international politics. 

From 2010 until 2019, Willemijn was Director of the Centre for International Conflict Analysis and Management (CICAM).

Willemijn has taught a variety of university courses, including Terrorism: Image and Reality, Conflicting Theories, Legitimation of Security Policy, Approaches to Peacebuilding, Conflict and Development, Introduction to Conflict Analysis and Management, and Civil Society and Peacebuilding. She has supervised numerous PhD and Master thesis projects. 

Willemijn is part of the research programme Moral Injury.

Willemijn has extensive experience in policy advice and evaluation.

Willemijn regularly publishes in scientific journals and books as well as in popular and professional media.
